Yankees Hall of Fame centerfielder Joe DiMaggio hit his first career grand slam (and his 20th homer of the season) off Boston's Rube Walberg as the Yankees completed a doubleheader sweep of the visiting Red Sox with an 8-4 win. DiMaggio went 4-for-6 with six runs and five RBIs in the double dip. DiMaggio finished his career with 13 career grand slams. The Yankees went on to win the 1937 World Series in five games over the New York Giants.
