Giants' Conerly sets NFL single-game passing mark

Giants quarterback Charlie Conerly set an NFL record with 36 completions in a 38-28 loss against the host Steelers. Conerly, who came over from the Washington Redskins before the start of the season, was 36-for-53 for 363 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Conerly, whose uniform No. 42 is retired, was the NFL's MVP in 1959. He played with the Giants through the 1961 season, and retired with 1,418 completions and 19,488 yards, both Giants records at the time. The current completion mark is 45, set by the Patriots' Drew Bledsoe on Nov. 14, 1994.
