Get ready for a wet weekend, Long Islanders.

The National Weather Service said there is "potential for 2 to 4 inches of rainfall," from Saturday into Monday morning, "with locally higher amounts possible. . . ."

"The heaviest rainfall is expected from Saturday night into Sunday morning," according to a hazardous weather outlook issued Friday by the service.

The service said that because Long Island "has been very dry of late," urban flooding of poor drainage and low-lying areas is possible.

There's "a small chance" of more significant, widespread flooding Saturday night into Sunday, the service said.

Nassau County and western Suffolk are considered "abnormally dry" by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

As for Friday's forecast, showers are likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Otherwise it will be mostly cloudy and breezy with highs in the lower 50s, forecasters said.
