Friday brings more pleasant weather, as Pope Francis continues his itinerary in the Big Apple, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 74 degrees, forecasters say.
Conditions on Long Island for both Friday and Saturday are similar, mostly sunny conditions, breezy near the coast, with highs in the low 70s, the National Weather Service said.
There's also a high risk of rip currents Friday at ocean beaches, with the possibility of minor tidal flooding at high tide this evening.
As for Sunday's weather, look for windy, mostly cloudy conditions with highs near 72, says Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist. Conditions at night could prove challenging for Long Islanders hoping for a clear view of a rare celestial event -- the combination of a supermoon with a total lunar eclipse.
With the eclipse starting a little past 9 p.m., and total eclipse starting just past 10 p.m., Hoffman says to look for mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of a shower. However, there could be "some breaks in the clouds, so grab a light jacket and keep checking the sky," he says.
