Holiday weekend storm expected to bring mixed bag of precipitation

Forecasters are keeping an eye on a potential storm this holiday weekend that is expected to bring a mixture of precipitation to Long Island.

A chance of rain possibly ending in snow is expected Sunday afternoon into Sunday night and Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's more likely to be on the [rainy] side," said David Stark, a meteorologist at the weather service in Upton, but it is early and "very uncertain."

Forecasters are expecting relatively mild temperatures ahead of the event, so if the storm center passes over a warmer Long Island the chance of rain is higher, but as of now it looks like a mixture, said meteorologist John Cristantello, also with the weather service.
