A Friday of mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 70s is on tap for Long Island.
The National Weather Service's Upton office said the weekday closes with mild, comfortable weather conditions across Nassau and Suffolk counties, including a light west wind shifting to the south from 8 to 13 mph.
There's a slight chance for rain, but that comes between midnight and early Saturday morning, the service said.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said some scattered showers are expected over the weekend but said that it would not be a washout.
For Friday, Hoffman called for a mix of sun and clouds, with "at times more clouds than sunshine." He also put daily highs across Long Island in the low 70s.
On Saturday, there's a window for some pleasant weather -- between a threat of showers and a possible thunderstorm in the early morning and then again in the afternoon.
Daytime conditions should be warm and humid, with high temperatures from the mid to upper 70s, he said.
On Sunday, clouds and a few morning showers give way to partly sunny skies and more warm and humid conditions.
Daily highs Sunday could come close to 80 degrees, he said.
