Wednesday’s partly sunny skies will be giving way to a return to rain showers Thursday, forecasters say.
Thursday’s precipitation will be widespread, getting started after around 2 a.m., and lasting through the day, before wrapping up Friday morning, said Carlie Buccola, a weather service meteorologist based in Upton.
About an inch is expected, possibly higher with any potential thunderstorms, she said.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect for Nassau County’s South Shore back bays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, saying that onshore winds and tides will combine to bring minor to localized moderate coastal flooding. Minor to localized moderate coastal flooding is also possible from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for the South Shore bays of southwest Suffolk.
As for the Memorial Day weekend, “Saturday is the best day, with sunshine and highs in the 70s,” News 12 meteorologist Rich Hoffman said. That’s as showers arrive for late Sunday into Monday.
