Sorry, Long Island, but it won't be a White Christmas this year.

Meteorologists believe there's a small chance — up to 25 or 30 percent — of light snow very late Sunday night into Christmas Eve morning on Monday but the chances decrease as daylight hours hit.

Otherwise, it'll be a mostly sunny weekend heading into the Christmas week, according to meteorologist Faye Morrone at the National Weather Service in Upton.

On Saturday, the highs will be in the upper 40s and remain steady or slowly fall throughout the day, Morrone said. By 7:15 a.m., "your high may very well be now or have already occurred," she said.

There could be a stray rain shower on Saturday morning, but most of the day will be dry but a bit breezy.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery said winds on Saturday will include gusts between 20 to 35 mph.

Overnight lows will be around freezing, with temperatures down to the mid-20s in the pine barrens, Morrone said.

On Sunday, the high temperatures will be in the low 40s with a dry forecast during the day, she said. After sunset, there is a chance of some light rain and, as temperatures fall, it could transition into light snow very late Sunday night into early Monday morning.

Overnight lows are expected to be around freezing again, with temperatures possibly falling into the upper 20s in the pine barrens, Morrone said.

Christmas Eve will bring high temperatures in the low to mid-40s and a slight breeze in the afternoon. The chance of snow decreases throughout the day as the sun rises, she said.

Santa will have to travel across Long Island overnight Monday with low temperatures in the upper 20s to around 30 degrees, according to Morrone.

Christmas is expected to bring highs around 40 degrees and dry weather, she said.

"We should have a good deal of sunshine," she said, adding that the normal temperatures this time of year are around 41 degrees.

Wednesday’s high is expected to be 40 degrees, with a low of 29, according to Avery. Thursday will bring a high of 45 degrees with a low of 40 degrees and on Friday, the high temperature is expected to rise to 48 degrees with the low dropping to 40 degrees, he said.
