Long Islanders should this week continue to enjoy a respite from the high humidity that can make air conditioning seem so attractive in the summer.
By the end of the work week, however, “The heat and humidity are coming back,” said Carlie Buccola, an Upton-based meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“You’ll get a real feel of summer as we head into the holiday weekend.”
Though the Independence Day weekend might be marred by some rain, until then, the weather looks promising for those lucky enough to be outside.
Wednesday is expected to be sunny, with a high of nearly 78 degrees, the NWS website said.
Thursday should be much the same, though perhaps two degrees warmer and a bit breezier; the south wind could accelerate to 18 to 23 miles per hour by the afternoon, from about half that speed earlier in the day, the web site said.
Friday’s forecast by the NWS is a bit warmer - 84 degrees - and clouds likely will roll in that night.
Still, Saturday should be mostly sunny with the same high temperature, though there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m., the NWS said.
Sunday, however, should be mostly cloudy and the chance of rain only rises slightly to 40 percent, it added.
