The rain that has fallen on Long Island on and off all day Tuesday is expected to taper off overnight, making way for a clearer, sunny Wednesday.

“Dry weather will return to the area for the middle of the week as high pressure builds into the region. With plenty of sunshine, temperatures will rise into the mid- and upper 50s across much of the area on Wednesday,” the National Weather Service said in an afternoon update.

“Thursday will be several degrees cooler, with increasing clouds late as low pressure approaches for the end of the week,” the service said.

Wet weather returns toward the end of the week, however, with the service predicting a chance of rain from Thursday night through Saturday.
