Milder LI weather with rain, chance of snow, Wednesday

Long Island this week could see a dusting of snow and a day of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday will be sunny, with temperatures in the low 40s, said David Stark, meteorologist with the service's Upton bureau. Sunday night will see increasing clouds after dark, with a chance of a brief, insignificant snow flurry or light drizzle, he said.

Lows on Sunday will be in the mid- to upper 20s.

Temperatures will warm up quickly after sunrise on Monday, with highs that day expected to be in the mid-40s. It'll be mostly cloudy for much of the day. Lows on Monday will dip into the mid-30s.

Tuesday will be even warmer, with mostly cloudy skies and highs near 50. Clouds will increase by Tuesday night, with temperatures dropping into the low 30s.

A low-pressure system developing to the west is expected to move across the region on Wednesday, bringing with it precipitation. Stark said if the current track of the system continues, it will move across Long Island, which will most likely see mostly rain. There is a possibility of some light snow, he said.

High temperatures on Wednesday will be in the mid-40s, and lows will be in the upper 20s.

Thursday will be the coldest day of the week, with highs only in the low to mid-30s. Thursday night's lows will be in the low 20s.

On Friday, expect highs in the mid- to upper 30s, with mostly sunny skies.
