Tuesday, the last day of summer, brings cloudy skies and dry conditions, with highs in the lower 70s, forecasters say.

There's a high risk of rip currents at ocean beaches through Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service said. Surf heights will be 4 to 6 feet.

"Wednesday is a beautiful start to fall," the weather service says in its forecast discussion, "with full sun, low humidity and light winds." Look for "cobalt blue skies," with above normal highs in the upper 70s.

It will be "mostly sunny on Wednesday," when fall begins at 4:21 a.m., said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman. Highs will be near 76 degrees.

The forecast calls for a mostly sunny and warm Thursday with highs near 77. Friday is expected to be partly sunny, with highs near 73, Hoffman said.
