Although the weekend had below average temperatures, it might feel more like spring later this week to Long Islanders.

Sunday will be mostly cloudy with a high of 42 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before noon, according to the National Weather Service. The temperature drops to 27 Sunday night.

That 30 percent chance of snow isn’t something to worry about, said Faye Morrone of the weather service’s Upton office.

“It will seem much more like winter than March 25,” she said.

Temperatures this time of year should be around 50 degrees, said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Bruce Avery. But spring may make an appearance later in the week, he said.

Monday features a bit more sun and a few ticks upward on the thermometer, he said.

Monday will be sunny with a daytime high near 42 degrees, according to the weather service.

Spring could continue to muscle its way in, with temperatures reaching around 50 degrees Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday brings another 30 percent chance of precipitation, the weather service said.

As Langston Hughes says in his poem “Harlem,” “What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?”

Not these days. What happens is that you keep looking longingly at your spring coat.
