Volunteers in Greece respond to migrant crisis

Hundreds of volunteers from around the world have gathered on the shores of the Greek island of Lesbos in an effort to bring aid and comfort to migrants and refugees. They arrived in great numbers since September 2015 when, according to one volunteer, many were inspired by a photo that stunned the world of a lifeless Syrian boy found drowned on a Turkish beach in 2015.

More than a million people fleeing war and poverty in the Middle East continue to pour out of Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other countries.
