County Executive Rob Astorino on Tuesday said he’s willing to negotiate a deal with lawmakers over an ongoing day care divide – as long as they find $4 million in cuts elsewhere.
Astorino’s seemingly change of heart comes a day after seven Republicans wanted the county executive and county board to sit down and come up with a solution.
But his acceptance also happened hours after Democrats said there is no need for a compromise since they believe the law is on their side. The two branches disagree over how much parents should contribute to the program, among other things.
So, in truth, it sounds like we’re back where we started: At an impasse.
That’s too bad because there was a real opportunity to solve this funding dilemma – outside of a courtroom.
