You have a week to head north for the Adirondack Challenge, a two-day outdoor festival at Indian Lake designed to draw international and downstate tourists to this oft-forgotten part of the state.
Promised by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo during this year's State of the State Address, the challenge begins next Sunday, July 21, with a 15-mile canoe race expected to draw 100 competitors from the United States and Canada.
In addition, there's a festival that afternoon in the town with live music, artisan-created watercraft and a Taste NY tent featuring Adirondacks food and drink. Probably a lot of moose trinkets as well.
Better still, Cuomo and Mayor Michael Bloomberg will face off in a whitewater raft competition on July 22. That's a race of Olympian egos not to be missed.
