EDITORIAL: Box score - 230,000

That's the number of people who now work in the federal Department of Homeland Security. The bureaucracy has grown quickly. The department had 180,000 employees in 2003 when it was established to bring together under one leadership 22 existing agencies with roles in securing the homeland. Keeping Americans safe is a really big job.
