2,300 -- That's the number of emergency department visits in New York State from June 7 to Aug. 1 for illnesses attributed to synthetic "marijuana" -- 10 times more than in the same period last year. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo was right on Thursday to expand the list of banned substances -- powerful chemicals -- that are combined to create this drug. Often used by young teens, the symptoms of this "legal high" include violent behavior and seizures. There have been 15 related deaths nationwide in 2015, though none in New York.
