FEMA extends deadline for Sandy aid

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended the deadline in 13 counties to apply for assistance related to superstorm Sandy until Jan. 28, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced.

The previous deadline was Dec. 31.

The federal agency provides funds for rental assistance, home repairs, personal property losses and other needs not covered by insurance.

Counties covered by the extension are: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau, New York (Manhattan), Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Westchester, Suffolk, Queens, Orange, Putnam, Sullivan and Ulster.
