Dumpers should pay to restore Clemente Park in Islip

Regarding “ ‘Fun Night’ set at reopened park” [News, Aug. 14], I lived in Brentwood for 33 years. I’m wondering why the refurbishing of Roberto Clemente Park couldn’t have been paid for by the illegal dumpers.

The Town of Islip rushed to reopen the park after three years and did a poor job providing a new, pristine environment. Some of the equipment is old and repainted! Grass areas are not filled in. This was paid for by the taxpayers.

With the light sentences handed out to the culprits — between six months and a year — it would seem to make sense that they could at least be held responsible for the future costs, such as restoration of the pool.
