Regarding Newsday’s editorial “Use every tool to cut tax burden” [Aug. 2], where are the tax savings to citizens in this plan for shared services?
Participating municipalities would be rewarded by New York State from funds it has generated by taxing its citizens for doing what towns and cities should have been doing every day.
Here’s a simpler solution. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo should withhold some percentage of state funds from all municipal budgets to force them to save. Better yet, issue refund checks to taxpayers directly from the municipalities’ funds. That would yield a real tax savings, not just a sleight of hand.
