Letter: Adding holidays won’t help students

When the Syosset school district approved three important religious holidays, it did a wonderful thing for its Indian-American and Muslim residents [“Push for school holidays,” News, Oct. 20]. But this brings up an important issue: How much of a good thing is too much?

I love ice cream, but occasionally must put down the spoon. We must be aware that high holy days exist in every religion and allow followers to worship as they see fit. If that means taking a day off from school to be with family and go to a religious observance, then by all means allow it!

But where does it end? How many other religions will request this? I would give our educational system a C-plus at best. Perhaps students need a bit more schooling, not less.
