It's a shame Patti LuPone had to interrupt her exit from the stage in an Off-Broadway production to confiscate a cellphone ["Patti LuPone is right: Dial it down at theater," Editorial, July 10].

Sadly, phones have become a national addiction. Last month, my family and I attended a taping of "Real Time with Bill Maher" in Los Angeles. All electronics were checked outside of the studio, as were books, writing paper and writing implements.

I wonder whether live theater would consider doing this. I know LuPone and I would be thankful.
