Many middle class federal employees are taking a pay hit by being furloughed one day a week, which is a 20 percent income reduction ["Obama to take a 5% pay cut," News, April 4].

These people have mortgages and kids in college, and they have to cope with ever-increasing costs of living, as we all do.

Cancer patients are now having trouble getting their medications because of the cut in Medicare funds affecting the clinics that serve them. This seems to be the nightmare that will eventually face all of us.

President Barack Obama has volunteered to take a 5 percent pay cut. Have you heard of even one of our congressional representatives offering to reduce his or her salary? I haven't and doubt that I will.

Remember this on Election Day.
