As a member of the Nassau County Legislature’s Democratic majority from 2000 to 2009, I was proud of our accomplishments and equally proud to say I was a Democrat.
That’s why it’s so depressing to watch the Democrats in the legislature become the “party of no” under their current leadership, and so heartening that a member, Legis. Laura Curran of Baldwin, finally stood up and said enough is enough [“Defection for Dems,” News, Oct. 15]. She joined the
Republican majority to approve $50 million in borrowing for capital projects. That Curran did the right thing should not be news, but it is. It would be far better for residents if other Democrats in the legislature stood up to their misguided leadership and emulated Curran. Continuing to blindly follow U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s playbook of “no” isn’t helpful to the county or the caucus’ constituents.
