Letter: Deter tall trucks from parkways

A tractor-trailer hit the Cantiague Rock Road bridge

In response to your photo of the truck that struck the bridge on the Northern State Parkway ["Crash into Northern State bridge," News, April 2], I'm tired of being stuck in the traffic and wasting my valuable time because truckers don't know that an 11-foot-high truck won't fit under a 9-foot overpass.

I recommend an easy fix. Build an inexpensive breakaway structure the same height as the overpasses, and place it at each entrance ramp. Trucks that are too high will hit those, and not get stuck beneath the overpasses.

Or we could use a beam at the beginning of the on-ramp, which would light up a warning sign to the trucker.
