Letter: Don’t bring Islanders back to Uniondale

Renovation work is going on at Nassau Coliseum

Renovation work is going on at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. Coliseum developers have shelved plans to have a minor league hockey team play home games at the renovated arena when it reopens in April, despite agreeing to do so in their contract. Matt Davies’ Feb. 10 editorial cartoon spoofing the planning for the renovated Nassau Coliseum was spot on. Most folks forget that the New York Islanders ranked 25th in home attendance out of 30 NHL teams before moving to Brooklyn. A family-affordable minor-league hockey team, or even an NBA D-League team, would make a lot more sense. (The Long Island Ducks often sell out.)

Even as an all-around sports fan, I could care less whether the Islanders ever return to the Nassau Coliseum.
