Connecticut wants to continue to dump potentially toxic sludge dredged from its harbors and ports [“In defense of the Sound,” News, Aug. 5].

Representatives of Long Island have seen the problems this causes Long Island Sound. The Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers have given the green light to continue dumping. We should call the Sound “Connecticut sludge pond.”

I realize it’s a complex issue, but let’s look to the future and the future of the aquatic life.
