Marianne Garvin’s deserves appreciation upon her retirement from the Community Development Corp. of Long Island after nearly 25 years [“Marianne Garvin to retire,” Business, April 27]. Her excellent leadership as president and chief executive has benefited numerous Long Island homeowners.
In 2002, I was asked by William Glacken, then Freeport’s mayor, if I would join his staff as a volunteer to work with the CDC to obtain federal funding for homeowners in need of weatherization and other improvements in the northeast section of the village.
For six years, our team improved the market value of many homes, due to Garvin’s skills. I also benefited. Garvin enriched this program and the people under her management.
