I and a few thousand others attended a farewell party for and at the Nassau Coliseum ["LI state of mind," News, Aug. 5].

I've attended other concerts and sporting events at the Coliseum, but this one was both happy and nostalgic. Any song that Billy Joel sang stirred up memories of earlier times in my life. Looking around at the crowd, I was amazed to see people of all ages, from teens to senior citizens. Nobody wanted to let go of the night.

I remembered when I took my grandchildren to see "Sesame Street Live" and attended Islander games. So many memories of good times.

I hope that the new Coliseum will be a tribute to the old one, bring us many more concerts and maybe even bring back our beloved Islanders.
