When the old Yankee Stadium hosted its final season, I felt we were losing a national treasure. As Uniondale heads into its final games hosting the Islanders, I find myself feeling something slightly similar ["Concept for Coliseum," News, April 15].
Oddly, the Islanders' success on Long Island rivals any New York team outside of the Bronx. The friendly confines of the working-class New York hockey team has hosted four championships. This undervalued team even has many championships as the New York Giants have Super Bowl wins.
Though the Coliseum isn't Yankee Stadium, we are losing a major-league presence whose championship pedigree hasn't been appreciated.
