The letter “Some police don’t use turn signals” June 19] caused me to reflect on vacationing last month in Southern California and driving a rental vehicle all over for two weeks.
Traffic seemed much greater than when I worked there a decade ago, much worse than anything in the New York City area. Yet every time I signaled for a lane change, the driver to either my left rear or right rear slowed to let me in. Every time. And everyone signals. Every time.
At first, I was waving thanks and realized I was the only one doing so. This courtesy, and following the law, was simply expected. I hated the thought of returning to New York.
