Newsday wrote about a school board’s decision to cancel school trips to New York City and Washington [“LI reply to Bratton jibe,” News, Nov. 22].
Though the caution is understandable, it’s the wrong decision. If we take this kind of action based on possible threats, the terrorists win, and we may as well never put our children on school buses.
The democratic decision would have been to inform parents and let them decide whether to withdraw children from trips. If my children were still in school, I would let them go on with their normal routine and hope that the school district would not make my decisions for me.
