My suggestions for using $550 million to "Transform Long Island" [Editorial, April 12]: Keep all politicians away from it. Use a panel of Long Island businessmen and women to decide how to spend the money.

Long Island is losing its workforce and manufacturing. We must provide jobs at all levels. Create tax incentives for the corridor along the Long Island Expressway from Route 110 to Riverhead to attract world headquarters.

Advertise Long Island around the country as a destination, and set up travel packages. Connect Long Island MacArthur Airport to the railroad; Ronkonkoma station is right nearby. Add daily flights to Atlantic City, and more direct flights to other needed destinations.

Supplement the public golf courses to make them top courses to play.

Employ minimum-security prisoners to clean our disgusting highways.

A corporate dynamo and world-class travel destination -- this should be the future of our beloved Island.
