Nassau County officials said that County Executive Edward Mangano had eliminated 123 positions, saving taxpayers $14.9 million [“104 got Nassau raises,” News, Feb. 4].
However, Mangano has given 104 appointees raises, which should offset those savings by more than $1 million. Instead of giving raises to the favored public servants, Mangano should use the full amount saved to reduce future borrowing and taxes.
