Letter: Nassau medical center should treat jail inmates

It is incredible that Nassau County is negotiating with a Tennessee-based company to supply medical care for its jail [Seeking medical vendor,” News, Oct. 1].

Nassau University Medical Center is a tertiary care facility and short walk to the jail. As a physician who trained at the medical center for five years, I find it hard to believe that it cannot provide care to the prisoners. But if it cannot, then how can we trust it to provide care for our community?
