Your article regarding the sixth arrest for a Commack man simply and clearly illustrates the problems with laws against driving while intoxicated ["Sixth DWI charge for man after crashing vehicle," News, April 13]. Five arrests previously? Why was this man even on the street?
I wonder if these repeat offenders cause the majority of fatal accidents. There should be zero tolerance regarding repeat offenders.
I own a restaurant pub in Suffolk County, and I have zero tolerance for customers who arrive intoxicated. They are offered food and nonalcoholic beverages. We're also "best friends" with the local taxi company and the police precinct. Over-served people are given few options in my pub.
