In the U.S. military, when a member is on trial or under investigation, superior officers are barred by law from commenting on a case outside of court. President Barack Obama has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. At the same time, Attorney General Loretta Lynch, his appointee, might face a decision about whether to prosecute Clinton.

This is a classic case of unlawful command influence.
