Irony abounds in the aftermath of the tragic attack on Americans in Orlando [“Shooter eyed other targets,” News, June 14].

First, it’s a safe bet that the shooter, Omar Mateen, and the Republican nominee for president, Donald Trump, are at opposite ends of the political spectrum.

Did this angry young man — consumed as he apparently was with Jihad — stop to think that his actions might hand an unintended victory to Trump and his supporters by vindicating their perceptions?

Already Trump has been heard delivering his remarks on the incident in a tone that says, “I told you so.”
