Thank you for your beautiful and heart-wrenching story about Stacie and Matt Polashek ["Regret & remembrance," News, Dec. 24].

As a volunteer at Last Hope Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation, I was aware of Stacie's death because she, at one time, volunteered at Last Hope and had adopted three cats from us. All of them are back in our adoption center in Wantagh.

We volunteers knew that Matt had to relinquish the cats to us due to his injuries in the July 7 highway car crash that took Stacie's life, but your article has opened our eyes to just how tragic the accident was and how difficult his physical and emotional recovery have been.

I'm sure all Last Hope volunteers join me in sending best wishes to Matt and his family, and we want Matt to know that we will do all we can to find Dobby, Joplynn and Potter a good home.
