It’s truly amazing that the Democratic caucus of the Suffolk Legislature sees no evil and hears no evil when it comes to District Attorney Thomas Spota [“DA Spota under federal probe,” News, June 11].

It’s clear to me that Long Island government at almost all levels is dysfunctional and filled with patronage, nepotism, contract assignments that border on payoffs and incompetence. There’s criminal behavior: the beating of a citizen by a senior official with a questionable resume but the right powerful friends.

Newsday’s investigative reports on our local government have been invaluable. They provide transparency in governmental affairs, and are much appreciated by this taxpayer.
