Regarding “Student indicted in baby’s death” [News, May 17], it’s disturbing to read that a Glen Head college student has been indicted on homicide and manslaughter charges after allegedly suffocating her infant shortly after birth. At the same time, thousands of abortions are performed in New York State every year, and this rarely makes headline news.

Abortion is considered by many people to be a “choice” or a “right” to be protected by law. I believe it’s homicide and deserving of more media attention.

Both parents make choices before and during pregnancy, yet there are alternatives to choosing abortion. One option is New York’s Safe Haven Law.

A parent who is unable or unwilling to care for an infant can give up custody of the baby, no questions asked, at a designated safe haven site such as a hospital.
