One of the letters on Sunday suggested issuing vouchers to give parents choice in selecting private schools for their kids ["Lower test scores touch off debate," Aug. 11].

The writer said vouchers are government funded at the same level as public schools. That's not correct.

Voucher programs enacted in other states provide vouchers at a level well below the cost of a public school education. Hence, not only do parents and students win educationally with vouchers, but taxpayers also win.
