Letter: Speed camera shut-down unwise

I don't think that shutting down the speed cameras was a good idea ["Nassau misses revenue goal," News, May 3]. No one wants to get fined, but now there's an $8 million budget hole. Since the government is not going to get money from speed cameras, Nassau County's taxes could increase, or there could be cuts to youth programs, Nassau Inter-County Express buses and other services.

Now no one will slow down around school areas, which puts children at risk. I don't understand why people couldn't just comply with the speed camera rules and slow down.
