Letter: Stop overreach by the government

The federal Highway Administration says over-the-counter sales at the state’s new welcome center on the Long Island Expressway are illegal [“Feds: Rest stop sales violate law,” News, Dec. 12]. This is another example of government trampling states’ rights.

Government regulations, and those of many municipalities, are simply examples of lunacy. In one small town in California, a 10-year-old girl’s lemonade stand was shut down because she did not have permits.

What happened to common sense?
