Letter: Strange justice in NYC

How appalling to read "Honor for slain cop in 1972" [News, July 15] alongside "Not a victory" about Eric Garner.

NYPD Officer Phillip Cardillo lost his life in the line of duty. Garner was resisting arrest.

Amazing that the life of a man selling illegal cigarettes is worth $5.9 million. Yet it took 43 years to honor a hero police officer. Has society gone mad?
