When will Nassau County government look up the word “transparency”? When will officials realize it’s not their money? It’s ours, and we expect them to spend it with our best interests at heart [“Contract chief hired,” News, Feb. 23].

Newsday has done its job identifying flaws in how our money is spent. Now taxpayers must make sure changes are made. If it takes a higher authority to remove the contracting privileges, then so be it. This can’t continue. We have become a laughingstock among public entities.
