Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich testified about gridlock that occurred during the closing of lanes on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge in 2013 [“Amid bridge trial, Christie tours state,” News, Sept. 23].

The question should be, why is there an entrance ramp to this bridge off local streets, in a small community.

While the rest of us swelter in bumper-to-bumper traffic as nearly every road in the world converges, residents of Fort Lee and neighboring communities save time through the back-door entrance.

I say close the ramp permanently and let the locals enter through the highways like the rest of us.
