I read about the accident on the Long Island Expressway in which a man was killed after an allegedly drunken driver hit his car [“Man killed on LIE,” News, April 8]. This is all too common.

Eastbound lanes were shut down for more than six hours for the police investigation. This is something I don’t quite understand. This was a tragedy, but the facts seem quite clear. What’s to investigate for six hours?

There has to be a better way. Is police overtime pay the culprit?
