Letters: President debate fails to impress

Regarding the first presidential debate: The American people finally get the truth! ["Clash: Obama, Romney spar on taxes, health care," News, Oct. 4] Each candidate implied that his opponent is a liar.

Joseph Mirzoeff, Port Washington

The first presidential debate persuaded me to look elsewhere -- to New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, who is running as a Libertarian Party presidential candidate.

Libertarians believe that what consenting adults consume, inhale, perform, read or view in the privacy of their own home or private social club isn't the concern of government. They would give a real voice to Americans who advocate a return to limited government, a minimal amount of confiscatory taxation to support only essential services, and pay-as-you-go budgeting. Libertarians support means-testing for all government assistance programs, abolition of pork-barrel spending and payments to reduce long-term debt.
